about

After a grueling tour in support of their January 2022 album The Days That Are Given And The Ways We Live Them, the boys in Beltalowda thought they would be on break until the fall - when writing would commence on a third full length. The world however had other, shittier, plans.

Written in the wake of the school shooting in Uvalde, "One Nation (Under The Gun)" came fully formed to guitarist /singer Mat Alano-Martin. "It was my grief and my frustration and my anger pouring out unfiltered, and from riff to lyrics the whole song took less than an hour to write" he said. "One of the guiding principles of the band comes from a Nina Simone quote; 'An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times,' and when a song like this comes to you, you don't sit on it for another year for the usual album release cycle."

Recorded in the members individual home studios, the song still contains the tight knit fire gained from this spring's tour and represents the band's evolving punk americana sound. JD Short's bass providing the muscle and Dagan Thogerson's drums putting in the hustle to give "One Nation (Under The Gun)" the appropriate sense of urgency for the song's topic.

Proceeds from sales of the single will be donated to Everytown For Gun Safety.

lyrics

We interrupt this program
With the usual report
Another mass shooting
Another dozen lives cut short
What can we do?
What can be done?
Political condolences
Never saved anyone

Hear the children die
See the lucky ones run
One nation
Under the gun

We interrupt this interruption
With a breaking story
Another massacre in the country
Of perpetual mourning
What can we do?
What can be done?
Is it too late?
To save our young.

See the children die
See the lucky ones run
One nation
Under the gun

American blood everywhere
American blood everywhere
American blood everywhere

How many more
Will we sacrifice?
To the violent horrors
We desensitized
What can we do?
What can be done?
Can we interrupt this madness?
Can this be undone?

Hear the children die
See the lucky ones run
One nation
Under the gun
See the children die
See the lucky ones run
One nation
Under the gun
