This road used to go somewhere This road used to go somewhere But now it don’t And if you didn’t make it out by now Then you probably won’t These words used to mean something These words used to mean something But now it’s just an empty front The language of the corrupt Justifying taking what they want This is what they left us Broken promises and broken trust This is all that is left of us The passions of the crushed These lives used to be worth more These lives used to be worth more Than a dollar sign and a credit score A means of others profits On the trading floor This is what they left us This is what is left

Will you die for the economy? Will you die for those on Wall Street? Will you sacrifice your family? For the market and the GDP No (x infinity) Will you give up your liberty? So the billionaires can be free To act with total impunity To exploit all of society No (x infinity) Our coffins for their coffers What do you say to that offer? No (x infinity)

Nod along to the beat Of the people’s demands Squeeze out a crocodile tear And say you understand Now shrug your shoulders And wring your hands But don’t change a thing Simply rebrand Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Give it to me Reframe your actions To fit the narrative Defend your failures As nuanced positives Confess how you’ve learned Insist that you’ve grown Then it’s back to business as usual Until the next time this rerun is shown Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Give it to me Give me studies Give me commissions Give me the theater Of willing submission. (Solo) Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Lip service yeah Give it to me Give me non-binding resolutions Give me empty proclamations Bring your dead ears one and all Down to the town hall Give me stalling tactics Give me diversions Give me the sweet perversion Of your lip service

I died during the peak Of the worldwide disease In the ICU for two weeks Kept alive by machines Fluid filled up my lungs My blood oxygen dropped Clots formed in my brain Just before my heart stopped Hospital on lock down No one there to hold my hand As I shuffled off To go and meet The Man The last thing that I saw Was somebody on the tv screen Saying that my death was a hoax A political strategy I’m one of the hundred Hundred thousand dead Another victim of Of a nation unled The morgues were overflowing so they Put me in a freezer truck on the street Outside the meters flashed expired A little too on the nose don’t you think Around the corner protestors gather With assault rifles and misspelled signs Declaring a haircut is worth more Than another person’s life I’m one of the hundred Hundred thousand dead Another victim Of a nation unled I’m one of the hundred Hundred thousand who died Abandoned by the system All responsibility denied Don’t you realize They ignored the early signs Sowed misinformation and lies They lied and denied Don’t you realize They failed the marginalized The ones in the middle And on each side of the aisle I’m one of the hundred I’m one of the hundred I’m one of the hundred Thousand dead I’m one of the hundred I’m one of the hundred I’m one of the hundred Thousand dead

Of a body without oxygen From a knee on his throat Of a body shot to death In her own home Of wounds from rubber bullets Fired without warning Of teargas and smoke Of a nation burning Blue is the color Of our enemy Blue is the color Of killers roaming free Of uniforms of the forces Officers of escalation Militarized police state Agents of intimidation Of the eyes behind the gas mask With no humanity And no hesitation to spill Peaceful blood upon the street Blue is the color Of our enemy Blue is the color Of killers roaming free Fists in the air for George and Bree Fists in the air for Sandra and Tony Fists in the air for Sean and Philando Fists in the air for Every murdered soul (Solo) Blue is the color Of our enemy Blue is the color Of killers roaming free Blue is the color Of our heartbreak Blue is the color Of our shame

The politics of convenience Will get you every time Your words or your actions Which one is the lie The politics of convenience Defend and deny Defend and deny Defend and deny The politics of convenience Makes hypocrites of us all Tweet about revolution From the food court in the mall The politics of convenience Repeat and justify Repeat and justify Repeat and justify Hey! Do you mean what you say? What action did you take today? Hey! Did you do your part To bring about a change? The politics of convenience Is a means to no end A faith of no conviction A movement of pretend The politics of convenience Nothing breaks when you bend Nothing breaks when you bend Nothing breaks when you bend Hey! Do you mean what you say? What action did you take today? Hey! Did you do your part To bring about a change? (Solo) The politics of convenience Has muddied up your mind It’s time to do the work Recommit and define The politics of convenience Leave it all behind Leave it all behind Leave it all behind Hey! Do you mean what you say? What action did you take today? Hey! Did you do your part To bring about a change?
